You know all those posts about “books that leave you emotionally stunned”?
This fucking fic is one of them.
I literally don’t know where to put these feels. The ending is such a perfect trifecta of sweetness and sadness and OMG NO WAYness!!!

Seriously, all my fellow Tolkiendil followers. Stop what you are doing and go read Don’t Panic. I’ll even send you my e-book version if you want. (You might want it for the sequel because damn that thing is over 1,000 pages!).
Read it. Especially if you like the Dunedain. Or incredibly silly Elves.
This fic also has moments of pure hilarity. Such as the image of Elves swarming all over the Minas Tirith palace kitchens, looking in all the pots and cupboards, wondering what things are and how they’re done and offering “improvements”.
And the implication that at some point over the past 500 years or more, someone in Imladris managed to dye Glorfindel’s hair green….
I forgot how emotionally intense this fic actually is.
The whole premise is “What if a girl actually got sucked into Middle-earth?”. As in, with the language barrier and lack of life skills and all. And since she’s an obsessive fan, she knows everything that’s going to happen in great detail.
So in the second one as the Elves are traveling north from Edoras after the wedding of Aragorn and Arwen there is a scene where Elrond asks her what happens at Cerin Amroth.
And I had to stop reading and cry.
Taking a moment to say if you’re a fan of Middle-earth and you haven’t read “Don’t Panic” and its sequel, “Okay, NOW Panic!” on ff.net you are missing out on some of the most detailed, moving, deep, and hilarious fan writing ever to grace the internet.
Seriously. Go read them. You will have all the feels.
Note: this post was originally made in 2010 in response to Diana Gabaldon’s epic rant about fanfiction. The original version is still being updated. I’m reposting it to Tumblr by request, but if you have any additions, please feel free to drop a comment at LJ so they can be…
Because I am so excited about fanfiction
I’m going to post some of my favorites and some awesome places from the old days. Oh, that sound weird.
What shall we call the time around the release of the LotR trilogy in the fandom history? Perhaps they mark the beginning of the Second Age of the fandom?
ANYWAY!
The TolkienOnline Reading Room (I used to post my stuff here! Ah, memories!)
Everything written by this awesome person! (But especially “Don’t Panic!” and “Okay NOW Panic!”)
And some silly ones:
The Official Fanfiction University of Middle-earth
Never Leave Fanfiction Lying Around
and it’s sequel: Starr Struck
Sadly a lot of the ones I really enjoyed have been purged from the site archives by now. There was one in particular set well into in the Fourth Age about a half-Orc, half-Elf who aspires to become one of the elite personal guard of the House of Telcontar. It was in two parts and really interesting and I’m sad it’s vanished. :(
This spree of writing posts would not be complete without fanfic plugging!
