WHOA! Barclay’s a Cylon! He just turned himself into the Hybrid!
My first reaction was ‘Nice thought but there’s no way, Coulson is much younger than…’ and then I stopped mid-thought.
Because you know what.
You know what.
After Steve, the US government had to keep trying to recreate the Super-Soldier Serum.
And who
and who
would be the FIRST DAMN PERSON IN LINE to volunteer?
They told us it never worked again. And that was kind of true. They never again recreated the super-strength or the gleaming pecs. But other things, they got right. They got the vastly delayed aging. And the kind of reflexes that make a man able to take out two armed thugs with a bag of flour. And the talent for leading through example. And they got the most important part, Erskine’s favorite part: the magnification of moral fiber, taking the loyalty and selflessness of a loyal and selfless man and making him into something spectacular.
Coulson didn’t buy those vintage cards on Ebay.
He’s had them since he was a little boy.
That little boy right there.
And it took him a long time to put together because he would give all the money from collecting scrap metal to his mother so she could do the grocery shopping. But every now and then she would let him have a bit of that money because he was such a good boy and he worked so hard. And he would spend it going to the movies just to see the Cap in the war bond reels and on those fantastic trading cards all the other kids thought were silly. But Phil didn’t care because he was going to be a hero someday, too….
…No, I’m fine. No, really.

Theatre night on the Enterprise and Picard is no where to be found.
Troi and Riker are just lovin’ each other telepathically because theatre is just so cute.
Worf and Geordi are doing the awkward bro wall lean because this theatre stuff is not for warriors and not an engine.
Data is not pleased by anyone’s performance because none of it is Method.

Heathen Problem #20: Overzealous new heathens who don’t know what they’re doing and refuse to learn from those who do

(*southern accent moment*) Honey, this is true of every religion. Half the asshat preachers you SEE on TV? Never went to seminary. That’s right. They just started preaching and passed a hat, and enough suckers donated.
Also, all this BS we’ve got going on here in the Catholic Church, at least so far as LGBT issues are concerned? It’s the US Conference of Catholic Bishops that’s the real issue. All this comes the same year the Vatican publishes the YouCat Youth Catechism… which frankly takes the most progressive stance the Church has had yet, and they have people up in arms over *that.* Seriously? The current pope, back when he was a cardinal, was on a plane with the leader of one of the better nun groups trying to increase gay acceptance in the Church and even push for gay marriage in the Church. She took the opportunity to ask if she was going to be excommunicated. What she got back? “It’s not on that level of doctrine.” In other words, he couldn’t, wouldn’t, and felt he shouldn’t. They’ve asked her to kindly stop writing of course, and naturally she said hell no, but… they ain’t kicking even a voice that loud out, and that’s saying something.
Now, if only we can get people to learn that Loki ain’t Satan, and unless you’re talking about Marvel, he ain’t evil and he ain’t Thor’s brother. Then we’d be getting somewhere. (/end accent)
I think you might want to get the point of this in context because these things aren’t really comparable and it’s really only a thing a Heathen would understand. 0.0
Honey, I’m a friend of Loki. I’m sorry if that confuses you because I can also write about Catholicism like a Catholic. I’m pretty much UU, and I’m writing a theology book. I’ve been a witch 9 years, I’ve apparently got more Norse-Germanic blood than you can shake a stick at. Granted, I read tarot better than runes, but you don’t know me, and you don’t know how I celebrated last Beltane.
I don’t have time for that “honey” shit, mkay? Also what does this have to do with how you celebrated last Beltane? Beltane isn’t even “Heathen”, or “Norse-Germanic”, but whatever. You might wanna check out the explanation by the person who wrote the OP. Srs.
I’ve been a witch 9 years, I’ve apparently got more Norse-Germanic blood than you can shake a stick at.
Which is also irrelevant and means dick-all to most heathens. Much less does it make one better able to understand heathenry.
I’m pretty much UU…
That’s Unitarian Universalist, right? So…you don’t live or act Heathen. You don’t consider yourself Heathen…How does any of this apply to you? I have much confusion on that point.
Also, seconding the total non-relevance of your DNA to your Heathen-ness or knowledge thereof. And again for the benefit of whoever sees it: “Blood” does not make one Heathen! Your life and actions do!
Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans.
And your right, my life and actions do speak far more than my blood. I’m just on a kick because I literally just found out last night a lot about my father’s side of the family I didn’t know before. He died when I was 2 1/2, his parents died not long after, and I’m out of contact with his twin sister, so any new info I get I tend to rather treasure.
It has a lot to do with me, because my spirituality operates on two levels - big picture, and current workings. Most of my current workings are Very Heathen/Shaman Based. Of course, if you’re anti-Rokkr, Northern Shamanism, etc, you probably wouldn’t find my more Heathen aspects Heathen at all.
I’d rather have an open but well educated mind than an open and ignorant one OR a closed and well educated one. (Or a closed and ignorant one. *shudders*) I’ve seen too much of the others.
But none of that makes your original response make anymore sense. There is a very specific context to this “Heathen Problem” that if you haven’t been involved in the Heathen community recently (and not in the universalist corners of it, more towards or in the capital of Recon territory) won’t make sense as being a “Heathen Problem”.
(Witch credentials and rune reading skills tend to not go over well as marks of one’s credibility on Heathenry and related discussions amongst a group of Heathens, especially those living near or in Recon territory. Hence the collective Skeptical Eyebrow reaction.)

ThinkProgress reports: “An Oklahoma emergency room doctor refused to provide emergency contraception to a 24-year-old female rape victim because the medication violated the health provider’s personal beliefs… ‘I will not give you emergency contraceptives because it goes against my believes,’ the doctor allegedly told the rape victim and her mother, Rhonda. ‘She knew my daughter had just been raped. Her attitude was so judgmental and I felt that she was just judging my daughter.’
Oklahoma law shields providers from offering the perfectly legal medication under a ‘conscience clause’ which could significantly hinder women’s access to contraception services.”
This is sick. You might have to carry your rapist’s child because MY beliefs say so? In what universe is that OK? Whatever happened to “first, do no harm” – and I mean the living, breathing patient in front of you, not a maybe baby conceived by a rape. The religious right whines about secularism intruding into their beliefs, but what is more intrusive than forced pregnancy?
This woman was luckily able to get EC at another hospital. Other people might not be so lucky.
When as a medical professional you feel that your “conscience” (ie: your own precious feelings) are more important than a patient’s health:
